Allison has helped build community

Dear Editor,
I am writing to ask that you give Mike Allison your support for mayor.
Throughout his tenure as our mayor, Mike has demonstrated leadership qualities that have proven beneficent to our community. Mike has been a tireless ambassador in helping recruit new businesses to Great Bend.
His efforts have dramatically changed our business landscape.
Great Bend has become home for several new businesses, and has seen expansion of some of our established businesses as well. Mike has also been instrumental in helping acquire numerous federal and state grants that have had a positive effect on our infrastructure.
We have witnessed miles of street repairs, including the major renovation project on 10th street.
We have seen major renovations of our swimming facility, renovations at the zoo, and the addition of new ball fields, soccer fields, a dog park, bike path, and the GBRC Activity Center.
The landscape of our medical community has also experienced growth. Great Bend now has a cancer center, advanced imaging center, a dialysis center and a locally owned, community hospital.
Mike would be the first to admit that he hasn’t created this positive environment alone.
I would suggest that his qualities of honesty, integrity, a willingness to listen, and the ability to make sound judgements based on common sense have definitely helped shape our community.
Please join me in supporting Mike Allison for mayor of Great Bend.
Marc E. Huslig,DDS,
Great Bend

scales of justice
Sometimes, when law enforcement agencies announce someone has been arrested or charged with a crime, they mention that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This principle places the burden of proof on the prosecution to show that the accused is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. It’s an important reminder because sometimes a person is arrested but never formally charged or a different charge than originally reported is filed. Other times, the case goes to court and the person is found not guilty. Still other times, the charges are filed but the case never goes to court because the case is dropped.
