Dear Editor,
Mr. Governor Sam Brownback, I don’t particularly like paying my electric bill, but I pay it because I like the benefits it brings. I haven’t particularly liked paying income taxes, but I like knowing that the kids in my community are getting an equitable education to those in Shawnee Mission. I like roads that are drivable. I like to know that state employees are being given a fair shake and that the State is upholding its promises and its part. I like knowing that I can go to the polls and vote according to my conscience, Republican or Democrat. I like having local elections away from the hustle of the general elections. I like knowing that everyone is safe from discrimination on the job.
These things are a part of being free in this great democracy. Kansas was once considered a free state, don’t change that.
