Locomotive was embarrasment
Placeholder Image

Dear Editor,
I came to Great Bend to participate in the wonderful Airfest Friday. I enjoyed the planes and the B-29 Memorial.
Before I left Great Bend, I stopped by Brit Spaugh Park to see an old veteran friend of mine, former Santa Fe steam locomotive 3416. What an embarrassment! That is a fine example of a high-speed passenger locomotive. The Great Bend Air Base and its people  came by rail. The nation’s railroads played a critical role in keeping this nation moving during wartime and 3416 could be a fine display with a little help.
