Dear Editor,
This past month, the Kansas legislature debated and passed the Medicaid expansion bill. A bill supported by the medical industry and a large majority of all Kansans. A bill that would provide low cost health insurance to thousands of low income, working Kansans. At least 90% of the cost to be born by the federal government and that would reduce the cost of health care provided to our prison population. This would result in a neutral cost to our state budget. The economic impact would also add to our state’s income and have a positive effect on our challenged budget.
Our representative, Tory Arnberger, courageously voted in favor of this bill, standing up for our less fortunate citizens.
As you know, Governor Brownback vetoed the bill. The House of Representatives scheduled a vote to override the governor’s action. This time Arnberger’s courage deserted her. She voted to sustain the veto, failing to stand up to Brownback.
This was a tough lesson in Kansas governance, but at least now we know what, or who, our representative stands for.
