Dear Editor,
When we think of disaster, we typically think about it happening somewhere else. We never think it will be our town, our neighborhood or our house. You never know when disaster will strike. Will it affect you, your family, your neighbors or your community? During times of distress, there’s one thing that remains constant- the need for help.
You can help Pay It Forward by donating blood with the American Red Cross. Blood donors affected by disasters may be forced to cancel blood donation appointments and may not be available to reschedule in the near future. Plus, businesses and schools affected may be unable to hold blood drives at their locations.
Just as the need for help remains constant, so does the need for blood. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion. More than 44,000 units of blood are needed each day to treat patients at U.S. hospitals.
I urge you to Pay It Forward and lend a helping hand locally at the Great Bend Community Blood Drive from 11:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, at St. Rose Auditorium, 1412 Baker St.
By donating blood, you are ensuring it will be available every day to those in need.
For more information about blood donation or to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit redcrossblood.org.
Sincerely,
Corry Herrman
