Dear Editor,
On Saturday, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Great Bend participated in the annual Scouting for Food Drive. They collected for the food bank at both Dillons stores and Walmart. The community was very supportive in this endeavor. In the four hours that the scouts were setup at the stores, 2,800 pounds and almost $400 was collected and delivered to the Community Food Bank of Barton County.
From the young cub scouts that greeted the customers while they entered the stores to the older scouts who provided the muscle to carry the boxes of food that was collected, it was a great opportunity for the area scouts to “Do a Good Turn Daily”, which happens to be the Scout slogan.
Our community also modeled to the scouts by their enthusiasm and participation that all of us can help our neighbor that is in need.
Ellinwood scouts also participated in Scouting for Food this past weekend, and Hoisington scouts will be collecting this next Saturday.
Thank you Barton County for your support for the scouting program and the food banks of Barton county.
