Dear Editor,
The board of directors, volunteers, auction committee, and staff of Central Kansas CASA, Inc., would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the residents of the 20th Judicial District (Barton, Ellsworth, Rice, Russell, and Stafford counties) for their support of our 6th annual CASA Chocolate Auction, which was held Feb. 5 at the Highland Convention Center.
This year’s auction was our most successful yet!
With the help of businesses and individuals who made financial contributions, donated auction items, or celebrated at the event with us, we were able to raise $40,000 to help fund a program that serves abused and neglected children in the court system through the tireless work of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers.
What is a CASA volunteer? A CASA volunteer is the eyes and ears of the judge in juvenile proceedings. CASA volunteers are assigned by the judge to children who are in the juvenile court system as a result of abuse and/or neglect. A CASA volunteer is a child’s voice in court, acting as an independent observer of the child’s case, maintaining regular contact with the child, parents, foster family, case worker, social worker, therapist, attorneys and any other professionals involved in the case in order to determine whether the child’s best interest is being served.
If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a CASA volunteer, please contact the office at 792-5544 for more information.
Again, on behalf of the entire program, thank you for your continued and overwhelming support for our agency!
We are proud to serve this judicial district and honored to have your support and encouragement.
