Rodney Richard Shelton, Sr. passed away on Dec. 16th in Great Bend, Kan. The only child of Francis “Red” Shelton and Bernadene Dodge Shelton he was born on Feb. 6, 1937 in Dallas, Texas. Rod graduated from Great Bend High School in 1955 and later joined the Air Force. He served in Rantoul, Ill., Limestone, Maine and Austin, Texas, before being discharged in 1962. He began working for the Firestone company in Great Bend, Kan., later transferring to Kansas City, Mo. and later Brookfield, Mo. where he retired and moved back to Great Bend.
He was predeceased by his parents and leaves four children, Cathy Shelton Boykin, Crestview, Fla.; Angela Shelton (Terri), Chula Vista, Calif.; Barbara Shelton Anthes (Chris), Gillette, Wyo.; and Rodney R. Shelton Jr., Great Bend, Kan. He also leaves four grandchildren, Melody Tarro, Jonathon Tarro (Erin), Courtney Schanck (Robert), Morgan Anthes and five great grandchildren, Joseph, Cian, Danielle, Lillie, and Teagan.
A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorials are suggested to donor’s choice in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
