Think about the other guy’s rights

To the editor:

I cannot believe what I hear from so called free people. “I don’t have to wear a mask because we live in a free society.” How ludicrous, how self centered is that?

That is like saying, “I can drive through town at 100 miles per hour.” That is like saying, “I don’t have to stop at that stop sign.” “I can go on my neighbor’s property and take what is his because I live in a free society.” “I can endanger other people’s life because I don’t have to abide by the rules.”

I don’t know if the mask works or not. I am not that smart on that subject. The one thing that I do know is that they are uncomfortable, they are downright miserable. But if there is a slight possibility that it would save just one life any decent person would submit to the discomfort. The people that proclaim to live in a free society and not subject to the rules to protect the innocent are self-centered self-serving idiots. These people think they are the only ones that have rights. People also have a right to be protected from this awful disease if possible.

There are doers and there are whiners. Which are you going to be?

One final thought. With the freedom and the rights comes a responsibility to respect other people’s rights. Most of the people claiming their rights think the other people have no rights. It all comes down to respect.
