The NCAA has officially been renamed.
It’s no longer the NCAA, it’s the BP — Bathroom Police.
Let’s see, what’s important?
Promoting collegiate sports at the highest level — or bathroom access for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender folks?
According to the NCAA’s illogical logic — protecting bathroom access trumps promoting sports at the highest level.
It’s perhaps the most important decision the NCAA has ever faced (LOL).
The NCAA will relocate seven national championship events from North Carolina scheduled in 2016 and 2017 due to North Carolina’s perceived anti-LGBT law.
• Women’s Soccer Championship, College Cup, Dec. 2-4, Cary.
• Div. 3 Men’s, Women’s Soccer Championships Dec. 2-3, Greensboro.
• 2017 Men’s Basketball Regional, March 17-19, Greensboro.
• 2017 Women’s Golf Regional, May 8-10, Greenville.
• 2017 Div. 3 Men’s, Women’s Tennis Championships, May 22-27, Cary.
• 2017 Women’s Lacrosse Championship, May 26 and 28, Cary.
• 2017 Division 2 Baseball Championship, May 27-June 3, Cary.
“We believe in providing a safe and respectful environment, and are committed to providing the best experience possible for college athletes and fans,” said Mark Emmert, NCAA president.
North Carolina’s Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act REQUIRES transgender people (and everyone else) to use public restrooms according to the biological sex on their birth certificate.
North Carolina’s statewide law makes it unlawful to use a restroom different from the gender on one’s birth certificate, regardless of gender identity.
Five states with brain-dead lawmakers prohibit travel to North Carolina for public employees and representatives of public institutions — New York, Minnesota, Washington, Vermont and Connecticut.
Few folks care this much about bathroom access. As long as your neighbor doesn’t pull out a weapon and demand money or favors, we’re OK with this bathroom drama.
This is beyond stupid.
Are the bathroom police going to require bathroom-goers to see someone’s birth certificate?
Are the bathroom police going to require a identity check to pass inspection?
Are the bathroom police going to make people drop their wardrobe and show what they look like?
The answers are NO, NO and NO.
Folks are going to continue to use the bathroom they feel comfortable with — in North Carolina and elsewhere.
The NCAA’s leadership is — going down the toilet.
