Summer is a super time to get out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine and the great many local activities.
Ellinwood just finished with its 40th annual After Harvest Festival and Hoisington is preparing for its Labor Day event. Both of these communities had and will have lots of activities for kids, teens and adults. It is so much more convenient and cost effective than driving all the way to a big city where one has to fight traffic, pay for gas and drive long distances. Plus, many of the smaller communities in the area have festivals that are fun as well.
There are so many fun and free activities in the area for residents to enjoy.
With little traffic and short lines, these activities exemplify what living in a rural community are all about.
It’s fun to get out and see friends and neighbors that one hasn’t seen for awhile.
There is nothing better than fresh fruits and vegetables purchased at the farmer’s market just a short drive or walk or bicycle ride from home on a flat landscape makes for easy riding.
We have a fabulous movie theater, bowling alleys, and Cheyenne Bottoms where there is plenty of room to roam. We live 50ish miles from a couple of major reservoir’s for boaters, fishers and swimmers to enjoy.
Plus, what’s better and cheaper than walk to the park with the kids? Families can play for a short time and then go home. There’s no spending hours in the car with spilled soda and food.
Until recently, the mosquitoes haven’t been too bad, and it hasn’t been too terribly hot. The dogs are always up for a walk.
Volunteers are always needed for just about anything— church, driver’s for Meals on Wheels, etc. These activities benefit the giver more than the receiver and refresh one’s soul.
Remember the grass only appears greener in yard next door. Home is where one lives.
