The warm summer days are coming to an end, and within weeks it will be jacket weather. Coat, scarf and mitten weather. That is why Trinity United Methodist Church has begun its annual search for coats to give away.
No one should face a Kansas winter without a warm coat, especially when there are good coats that are no longer needed in closets throughout the community. Between now and Sept. 21, people are invited to bring coats to Trinity UMC, 5700 Broadway Ave., or any Great Bend school – USD 428 schools, Holy Family School or Central Kansas Christian Academy.
The coats will be professionally cleaned courtesy of Master Cleaners in Great Bend. Then, on Oct. 3, people will be able to come to the church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and choose a coat.
There are always many needs in our community, as we were reminded recently when the Emergency Aid Council sent out a call for help at the end of August. Fortunately, we live in a community where people are often happy to give, if they know what is needed.
So, enjoy the rest of summer and the transition into fall. Just remember, it’s not too early to think about the cold days ahead – and those who will need warm coats.
