Plans are in the works for the third Party in the Park, the annual city-sponsored event held to say thanks for the support the city receives from the community. Set for Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park, events will take place throughout the day.
There is plenty going on, from the Tuff Enuff obstacle run to the Oozefest Mud Volleyball tournament to county-wide Business Olympics face-off to the reality program Street Rodding American Style appearance at the car show to the Oreo eating contest to the Kids Inflatable Fun Zone to the Music under the stars concerts to the fireworks.
Residents can show up for an activity or two, or can bring lawn chairs and coolers and make a day of it. “Party in the Park is planned and we are almost ready to pack the park,” Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said.
The idea for the party stemmed from citywide festivals held in years gone by when citizens would gather in public places and celebrate summer, harvest or just the joys of living in a small town. Now, the city is bringing that vibe back.
City employees go all out for this. Many put in extra hours getting things ready or hanging around the day of to make sure it runs smoothly.
They are proud of their city and what to show their appreciation.
Now it is our turn. There is something for everyone to enjoy during the Party in the Park and we should all take part.
