If you grew up in America in the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s and even later, you’d have been sentenced by your peers to an eternity of playing Barbie with your sister if you didn’t know and admire Stan Lee.
In fact, for the Marvel-heads of those decades, Stan Lee — when pronounced correctly, it’s like one name STANLEE — could easily have had our votes for president, that is if 10- to 14-year-olds had been allowed to vote.
Lee didn’t actually own Marvel Comics, but we figured he did. He was creator or co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Thor, Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos and other great comic heroes — not to mention comic villains.
Now, at 88, Lee has finally received his star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
‘Bout time!
Lee has had cameo appearances in several of the movies that have been made about Marvel super heroes in recent years, and for those of us who looked forward to his trips away from reality during our formative years, the celebrity has never faded.
It’s great that Lee has lived long enough to enjoy this level of recognition and the the faith we placed in him — in spite of dire warnings from parents and educators — was well placed after all.
As the great man said, time and again, “Nuff said!”
