The Barton Community College men’s golf team is coming off a strong season.
The Cougars made it to the NJCAA Division I Men’s National Championships, which was held at Spirit Hollow in Burlington, Iowa.
Barton finished in 21st place with a three-round total of 1,311.
A pair of high school golfers will be joining the team next season after signing their letters of intent.
Great Bend’s Chance Haney and Central Plains’ Konner Hickel have signed their plans to compete with Barton.
“They’re local kids,” Barton head coach Doug Kaiser said. “They shoot good golf. They should be as good, if not better, next year.”
Both golfers competed in their classification’s state golf tournament.
Haney finished in 32nd place at the 5A tournament in Wichita.
Haney shot an 81 at the tournament.
“Chance is a good kid,” Kaiser said. “He did all kinds of sports. I know he played football and golf. He’s shot some good scores while in high school.”
Hickel tied for 25th in the 2A golf tournament in Ellis, carding an 82.
“Konner is kind of the same way as Chance,” Kaiser said. “He’s played a number of sports, and he shot well at state.”
