The Barton Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams started the spring season against Bethany College on Sunday at Club 1 Fitness.
The Lady Cougars won 5-4. The Barton men fell 6-1.
“It was a match that saw the momentum swing around crazily,” Barton head coach Lyle Stickney said of the women’s dual. “We swept the doubles and won the No. 1 singles to go up 4-0 only to drop the next three singles matches.
“But Jamie (Christiansen) came up big for us again, and clinched it by winning her No. 5 singles match.”
Stickney said the men’s team got overwhelmed by Bethany.
“I knew we’d have our hand full,” Stickney said. “Bethany has a very talented team, and they have a ton of depth. We have a lot to work on, but luckily, it is only Feb. 3, so we have a lot of time to improve.”
The Barton women host Hesston College on Friday, Feb. 22. The Cougars play host to Hesston on Monday, Feb. 25. Both matches start at 2 p.m.
