Barton softball runs winning streak to 10

It was a six-game stretch of games the Barton softball team was supposed to win. After a weekend filled with ranked teams in Texas, Barton had six games against junior varsity teams.
Sometimes things don’t go as expected, however. Not to worry in this case – things did go as expected.
Barton completed that stretch a perfect 6-0 and ran its winning streak to 10 with an 11-0, 5-1 sweep of the Bethany JV Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Fields.
Barton is 12-1 overall. The sweep was the start of a 6-game home stand for the Cougars. Brown Mackie is in town Thursday for a twinbill then Barton hosts Cowley Sunday for a pair.
Barton rode the strong pitching of Madison Didion in the opener. The freshman ran her scoreless streak to 19 innings. She allowed just two hits and struck out eight to improve to 6-1.
“Madison came through again with a very good pitching performance,” Assistant Coach Anna Voss said. “Her hard work this winter is paying off tenfold.”
Barton got three hits and three RBI from sophomore Cadie O’Donnell. Freshmen Jayden Gonzales and Brittany Wood combined for four RBI. Wood had two doubles.
Barton scored just five runs in the nightcap – four of them in the third inning. Leadoff hitter Maddison Schofield started it with a single and scored on a Gonzales double. Sophomore Jenna Hosey singled in Gonzales and Holly Posegate singled in Wood and Hosey to cap the 4-run inning.
Not only did Posegate drive in two runs she picked up the win pitching as well. The sophomore is now 6-0, allowing just two hits and one unearned run.
“We did not hit as well as we could have in the middle of our order,” Voss said. “We need to figure things out for Thursday and Sunday.”
Both of Barton’s doubleheaders will start at 1 p.m. against Brown Mackie and Cowley.
