For the second time this year the Barton softball has a double digit winning streak. The Cougars made it 11 in a row with a sweep of the McPherson JV Monday afternoon in McPherson.
Barton won 10-2 and 7-1 on the road and now stand at 29-2 on the season. Both losses are teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation.
In the opener Madison Didion continued her domination in the circle for the Cougars. She allowed just two hits and struck out eight. Both runs for the Bulldogs were unearned. Didion is now 16-1 on the season.
Didion now as a 1.32 ERA and has walked just 10 batters while striking out 130 in 100 innings.
Offensively, Barton scored three times in the second inning to take the lead. Holly Posegate and Lili Ertman both had RBI as the Cougars went up 3-1.
Barton put the game away with three more in the fifth and sixth innings. Posegate drove in two in the fifth with a single and Jenna Hosey drove in a pair in the sixth on a single.
In the nightcap it was a 3-run fourth inning that gave Barton the lead on the way to the win.
Barton broke open a 1-all game with those three runs and added three more in the sixth for the 7-1 win.
Brittany Wood belted a 3-run homer in the sixth inning – her 13th of the season. That puts her third nationally in that category. Her three RBI moves her to second in the nation with 58.
Posegate allowed just one run and struck out seven to improve to 13-1.
