Barton splits doubleheader with Hutch

A 2-run ninth inning gave Hutchinson Community College baseball team the second game of a double header against Barton at Cougar Fields on Saturday.
BCC was able to take the first game, 3-2.
In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Barton found itself behind early when Hutchinson’s Ryan Mayfield was driven in by a sacrifice fly from Connor McClain in the first inning.
The Cougars, 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Western Division, tied the game in the fourth inning. Frederico Castagnini, who drew a one-out walk, was advanced to third base by a Mitch Slauter single to right field. Nathan Miller followed that with a sacrifice fly.
Hutch, 4-6 overall and 4-2 in the West, took the lead again in the top of the sixth inning, 2-1, but BCC strung together a pair of walks to get base runners with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
A wild pitch from the Blue Dragons Devon Brogan advanced the runners to second and third. Ryan Busboom drove a single into center field scoring both runners to take a 3-2 lead.
In the second game, Barton went ahead in the bottom of the first inning when Castagnini scored on a wild pitch.
Hutch tied it in the third inning when T Vinson stole home.
Barton scored again in the bottom of the fifth on a Castagnini RBI single to center field, but the Blue Dragons plated two in the top of the ninth and got the Cougars in a one-two-three inning to close out the day.
The  deciding game in the series is today at 1 p.m. at Cougar Fields.
