WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The first duals of the season were contested Wednesday for the Barton wrestling team. The Cougars traveled to Missouri for a double dual with Wentworth Military Academy and the University of Central Missouri.
The Cougars defeated Wentworth Academy by an impressive 56-0 final but lost to Central Missouri by a 32-12 count.
In the win over Wentworth, the Cougars won seven of the matches by fall, another by technical fall, and one by forfeit. The only close match was a 5-3 win by Howard Johnson at 149.
Earning pins were Caysen Smith (133), Derek Gentry (157), Lucas McMichael (165), David Kelly (174), Trent Miles (184), Ethan Dean (197), and Brix Brickey (285).
Cody Liles won 17-1 over Isaiah Banks for a technical fall at 141. Skylar Johnson won by forfeit at 125.
Against the Mules, Barton was only able to win three of the matches.
Johnson again picked up a forfeit win at 125 for half of the Cougars’ points. Johnson made it a 2-0 day with an 11-9 win over Zachary Schridde and Kelly defeated Allan Pearson, 7-3.
Forrestt Lalaguna narrowly lost his match at 285, losing 7-6 to Robert Schneider. Smith lost a 1-point battle as well, 6-5 to Stephen Tajague. Gentry lost a high scoring close match to Staffon Fassett, 16-14.
The Cougars will travel to Northwest Oklahoma A&M Tuesday for another dual.
