WICHITA — After finishing off Garden City Community College in the NJCAA Region VI volleyball tournament’s semifinal match, the Barton Lady Cougars challenged No. 17 Hutchinson in the championship.
Just as they did in a second-round match a day earlier, the Lady Dragons won in five sets on Sunday at Newman University in Wichita 25-23, 19-25, 14-25, 25-19 and 15-10.
The Lady Cougars toppled Garden City in four games, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16, to advance.
Barton finished 15-20 on the season.
Freshman Mackenzie Orchard was the kills leader with 268.
Freshman McKenzie Piland led with 873 assists.
Barton graduates four sophomores — Isabel Valdez, Morgan Palenske, Jasbell Cruz and Taylor Littleton.
