DODGE CITY – The Great Bend Bat Cats displayed their typical formula – solid pitching, clutch hitting and reliable defense – to beat the Dodge City A’s 7-3 in Monday’s non-league baseball game.
The Bat Cats (16-4, 15-3 Sunflower) continue a 3-day road trip to Liberal Tuesday and Wednesday.
Starter Anthony Treto (2-0) worked five solid innings and yielded one earned run.
Dodge City’s Rudy Gonzalez doubled home Nolan Williams in the fourth inning.
The Bat Cats converted three walks and a hit batter into a 4-run fifth inning. Brady Kreutzer and Connor Chaves scored on wild pitches by Peyton Walters. Armani Raygoza and Grant Nottleman delivered sacrifice flies to score JoJo Nieves and Robby Bolin.
In the sixth inning, Nieves singled home Matthew Mendez and Bolin singled in Nieves for a 6-1 lead.
Dodge City’s Williams scored on an error and Dawson Stutz scored on a sacrifice fly by Peter Tassler for a 6-3 score.
Jake Tatom scored the Bat Cats’ seventh run on an error.
