Bat Cats rally past Derby Twins, 6-3

DERBY — The Great Bend Bat Cats celebrated when Derby Twins starting pitcher Jerimiah Arnett departed with 12 strikeouts in eight brilliant innings. Arnett (0.87 ERA) has yielded three earned runs in 31 innings. The Bat Cats (26-9, 21-6 Sunflower) scratched out one unearned run off Arnett on a JoJo Nieves sacrifice fly. 

Down 3-1, the Bat Cats roughed up Derby reliever Baron Lynch for five ninth-inning runs for a shocking 6-3 comeback Sunflower League victory.

Jase Woita singled, Grant Nottlemann walked and Marshall Hale singled. They were replaced by pinch runners Brady Kreutzer, Nolan Bushko and Jace Wentling.

Kreutzer scored on a wild pitch. Bushko scored on a JoJo Nieves sacrifice fly. Robby Bolin doubled home Wentling and Mendez. Bolin scored on Armani Raygoza's sacrifice fly for a 6-3 lead.

Bat Cat pitchers Zach Curry, David Stuart and winning pitcher Matthew Howell (2-0) stranded 16 Derby baserunners and worked out of multiple bases-loaded situations.

Derby's Tyler Cowen scored on a first-inning error. Wyatt Grant scored on Cowen's fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Grant scored on a seventh-inning wild pitch for a 3-1 lead.
