The Barton Community College women’s golf team concluded Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play on Monday with a win at Stoneridge Golf Club in Great Bend.
The Lady Cougars took first place among the four KJCCC teams, securing a conference title for Barton.
“It is the fourth first-place finish in a row for us,” BCC head coach Doug Kaiser said. “In the conference, we have three first-place finishes and one second place. Overall this season we’ve played in six meets and we’ve finished in first five times and second once.”
Kaiser said that this is the first conference title for Barton in a while.
“I think it’s been six years since the team has won the conference,” Kaiser said. “So this is a pretty big accomplishment for us.”
While first place overall went to Chelsie Gausman of Colby, who shot a 141 during the two-day meet that weathered 90-degree heat on Sunday and 30-degree wind chills on Monday, Chelsea Dietz led a Barton team that placed five golfers in the top 10.
Dietz shot a 92 the first day, and 46 on Monday to finish with a 142, just one stroke shy of first place.
Rachel Strecker took third place with a final score of 144.
“(Dietz) looked really good,” Kaiser said. “You know we were out there in 97 degrees on Sunday and high winds (Monday). She’s our No. 2 girl usually. She had a really good meet.
“Strecker is usually our No. 1 girl. They both did well at the meet. They should both do just as well at the regional meet in Hutchinson.”
Shanda Thompson and Lindsey Wait tied for eighth place, each shooting 159.
Kaylee Miller finished in 10th place for Barton, shooting 164.
The NJCAA Region VI golf meet is scheduled for April 25-26 at Carey Park in Hutchinson. The top 10 golfers from the regional meet will advance to the national meet in Daytona Beach on May 14-19.
