The joy of sweeping a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference doubleheader quickly turned to the celebration of a milestone as the Barton Community College baseball team swept Pratt 9-8 and 11-10 on Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field.
The Cougars won both contests in walk-off fashion, winning Game 1 with a Caleb Cherryholmes bases-loaded walk and winning Game 2 as freshman Trevor Turner blasted a deep-center, bases-loaded single to set off a series of celebrations on the field.
As the Cougars chased and mobbed Turner behind first base, Barton head coach Mike Warren was congratulated by assistant coach Roger Ward as the victory marked the 1,000th of Warren’s coaching career.
The mob of happy Cougars then quickly turned towards Warren, eventually catching and dowsing the 30-year Barton skipper with ice cold water.
Having won No. 900 at Barton on Wednesday, Warren reaches the 1,000 feat with one game left in the 2014 regular season as the teams will play the series finale at 1 p.m. today.
The 31-23-1 Cougars improve to 14-17 in the conference while dropping Pratt to 20-33 on the season and 7-24 in the Jayhawk.
