BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) — The president of Virginia Commonwealth University says he predicted a Final Four appearance, even if the players and most everybody else following college basketball didn't see it coming.
Michael Rao tells the Bay City Times for a story Monday that he told his wife the team would get there after the Rams beat Wichita State last month. Eleventh-seeded Virginia Commonwealth is heading to Houston to face Butler after stunning top-seeded Kansas 71-61 on Sunday.
Rao, former president of Central Michigan University, says he saw a different look, more focus and greater confidence in the players.
The Rams were so dubious of getting an NCAA tournament invite that they didn't bother watching the selection show two weeks ago.
