MANHATTAN — Jared Loomis of Macksville was honored with one of three special-teams most valuable player awards at the Kansas State football awards banquet on Saturday.
He is the son of Bruce and Eileen Loomis of Macksville.
A junior linebacker, Loomis had nine tackles and forced a fumble against Baylor on special teams this season. Loomis also played a pivotal role on the Wildcats’ kick return unit that saw Tyler Lockett lead the nation in return average.
“Jared is a guy that started off the season with a lot of these guys and always understood what needed to be done,” Sean Snyder said. “He was always communicating and trying to figure out the best ways to adjust and made key plays and key blocks.”
Loomis was instrumental to the success of K-State’s special teams this season. Loomis played on four of six units.
K-State special teams coordinator Sean Snyder shared the MVP honor with Loomis, first-team Walter Camp All-American Tyler Lockett and junior kicker Anthony Cantele.
Cantele earned three Big 12 Player of the Week honors to tie Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III. Cantele was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection.
Collin Klein was named Offensive MVP. The Defensive MVPs were linebacker Arthur Brown and defensive back Nigel Malone.
