Cougar golfers win Barton Invitational
spt CougarHead2C

Late October often doesn’t provide the greatest weather for a golf tournament. But the Barton men’s golf team persevered through the elements to capture the Barton Fall Invitational and put a lid on the fall season.
Barton beat Jayhawk rival Dodge City by 14 strokes to capture the event at StoneRidge Golf Course last week.
The Cougars shot a 586 with Dodge City second at 600. The Dodge City B team was third with a 626. Independence shot 657, the Barton B shot a 660 for fifth.
“It was a good way to end the fall,” Coach Doug Kaiser said. “You always like to win your home meets and to do so before the long layoff in even better.”
Individually, Barton freshman Kylian Cavdar was first with a 4-over par 146. Cavdar tied with Daniel Taggart of Dodge City as the two shot an identical 74-72 – 146.
Saksit Jairak of Dodge was one stroke behind the duo then a trio of Cougars followed with 148.
Thitipong Homruen had the craziest of those 148’s. The sophomore from Thailand shot a 9-over 80 in the opening round then fired the best score of the day with a 3-under 68. Adrien Bonnet followed a similar route with a 78-70.
Great Bend freshman Kelby Titus had a more level road to 148 with a 76-72.
“Our guys seems to have an ability to adjust to the weather as the day goes on,” Coach Kaiser said. “That showed again in this meet. All of our guys shot better in the afternoon round.”
Oscar Elfvin made it four Barton golfers grouped together, just one stroke back of the trio with a 149, shooting a 76-73 for seventh overall.
Hitting for the Barton B team, Jacob Roth shot a 78-75 – 153 to finish 10th. Jacob Uhrmacher and Michael Kelly both shot a 164. Tanner Randall shot 170 and Taylor Travis a 215.
Barton, ranked 15th in the nation, will resume the season with the first of three Jayhawk Tournaments in late March.
