The Barton men’s golf team opened the spring portion of its season with the first Jayhawk Conference meet of the year recently. The Cougars traveled to Manhattan to play 36 holes in one day at the very challenging Colbert Hills.
Barton took fourth in the meet, finishing the day with a 650. Garden City rallied to win by one stroke, shooting a 304 the final 18 for a 323-304 – 627. That edged first round leader Hutchinson, which finished a stroke back at 313-315 – 628. Dodge City was also in the mix with a 320-310 – 630.
Barton finished 326-324 – 650. From there it was 27 back to fifth place.
Barton’s Jakkapat Horsangchai was in the mix for top individual honors, finishing fourth by four strokes. Horsangchai shot a 76-78 – 154, 10-over par. Wil Arnold of Hutchinson won with a 75-75 – 150. Skyler Tebo and Dominic Pollock of Garden City were second and third with a 151 and 152.
Barton’s Seokunh Kang just finished outside the top 10 by a single stroke. Kang opened with an 83 then came back strong with a 77 for a 160 total for 12th.
Natchapol Srinoon and Jared Oelke both finished in a tie for 21st. Srinoon shot 83-85 for his 168 total while Oelke shot a pair of 84’s to get to 168.
Blake Huxman and Andrew Iverson finished with 180. Huxman shot a 90-90 while Iverson shot 89-91.
The Cougars are back for Jayhawk Meet 2 Monday and Tuesday at Cottonwood Hills Golf Course in Hutchinson. That will be the final conference meet of the season.
