The Barton women’s basketball team will load the bus and head to southeast Kansas Thursday to start the post season.
The Cougars are headed to Coffeyville for a rematch with the Red Ravens in a game Barton won earlier this year at the Barton Gym.
The Cougars (14-16) are the 11th seed in the Region VI Tournament while Coffeyville (21-9) is the 6th seed.
When Coffeyville came to the Barton Gym on Feb. 1, the Red Ravens were in the thick of the Jayhawk Conference title race. Coffeyville was 11-2 and one game out of the conference lead.
Barton led most of that contest but fell behind after an 18-4 Coffeyville run that gave the Red Ravens the lead in the third quarter. Barton still trailed by nine with 4:39 to play.
But Barton answered with an 11-0 run to take the lead late then hold off Coffeyville for the win.
Since that loss, the Red Ravens had struggled. Coffeyville is just 3-3 after that loss with the only wins coming over the three of the bottom four teams in the conference.
If Barton would win beat Coffeyville, the Cougars would head to Hartman Arena in Wichita for quarterfinal action. Barton would play the winner of No. 3 Cowley (23-7) and No. 14 Neosho (11-19).
The other half of the bracket has No. 2 Garden City (20-10) hosting No. 15 Colby (5-25) and No. 10 Northwest Tech (21-8) at No. 7 Cloud (21-9).
In the top half of the bracket, top seeded Hutchinson (26-3) will be the favorite to make the finals. The Blue Dragons will get a first round bye then take on the winner of No. 9 Dodge City (17-13) at No. 8 Independence (21-8).
The rest of the top half features had No. 4 Seward (22-7) at home against No. 13 Pratt (11-18) and No. 5 Butler (23-7) hosting No. 12 Allen County (9-21).
