The final tune up before the NJCAA Championship gave the Barton women’s cross country team a chance to get healthy.
The Cougars put just four runners on the course at the Region VI Championships but should to full strength the NJCAA’s.
Barton ran without its top runner – Mirena Goncalves – who was held while nursing an ailment. She should be ready to roll come the national championships.
In her absence, Wilyeska Suarez led the Cougars, finishing 25th overall with a time of 20:43.52.
Cowley won the meet with a team score of 63, followed by Allen with 70 and Colby with 84.
Individually, Winnie Kibet of Colby won in a time of 18:28.54. She was followed by Kaitlyn Shoemaker of Allen count in 18:39.06 and Stephanie Barrett of Cloud with a 19:22.11.
Barton, ranked 23rd in the nation, had three runners grouped up to round out the team.
Mariah Stein finished 60th in 22:10.34, Amira Del Muro was 65th in 22:32.53 and Emily Hopson-Boyd took 71st in 22:57.98.
The Cougars will finish up the season Nov. 12 when they head to El Dorado for the NJCAA Championships.
