Cougars beat ranked foe in season opener

The Barton Community College men’s soccer team opened the 2012 season Saturday with a 2-0 victory over No. 18-ranked Northwest College at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
The Cougars’ Sam McCrillis, who wreaked havoc on the Trappers defense all day, scored just four minutes into the contest to help lead the Barton offense.
Ebu Camara helped seal the victory with an unassisted goal midway through the second half.
Barton will play its second straight game against a ranked opponent as they play today at 2 p.m. against No. 19-ranked Otero Junior College, who was a 7-0 winner against Northwest Kansas Technical College Saturday afternoon.  
Northwest College will look to rebound against Northwest Kansas Technical College today at 10 a.m.

Lady Cougars
start season with win
The Barton women’s soccer team scored once each half to win 2-0.
Barton’s Bianca Barron scored both the goals with the first coming just six minutes into the contest, and her second coming midway through the second half.
The victory gave first-year head coach Aaron Avila his first victory leading the Lady Cougars.
Barton will next play today against Otero Junior College in a 4 p.m. game at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Northwest College and Northwest Kansas Technical College will square off today at noon.   

Barton volleyball team off to rocky start
The Barton volleyball team was handed four losses in Texas this weekend to open up the 2012 season.  
Participating in the Dana Hatch Invite hosted by Tyler Junior College, the Cougars lost two matches on Friday and two more on Saturday.  
On Friday, Barton lost to Vernon College (Texas) three sets to one. After dropping the first set 11-25, the Lady Cougars won the second set 25-18 before dropping the third set 15-25.
The Lady Cougars battled back in the fourth but eventually fell 27-29.
Returning to the floor after a short break, Barton lost again three sets to one falling to Panola College (Texas).
No. 2-ranked Tyler Junior College (TX) swept Barton in the first match on Saturday, and the Lady Cougars fell three sets to one to Blinn College (Texas) in the final match.
Barton returns to action on Wednesday night as they host Seward County in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener for both teams.  The match starts at 6:30 at Kirkman Activity Center.
