The Barton Community College Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two former Barton athletes to fill assistant coach vacancies.  Approved at Thursday’s Board meeting were Brett McBride as assistant coach for the baseball program and Tony Davis as assistant coach for the track & field program.
A Lawrence native, McBride was approved to fill the vacancy left by Brent Biggs who became the head coach earlier this month.  Playing for the Cougars in the 2005-2006 season, McBride returns to Barton after serving as assistant coach during the 2011 and 2012 seasons and more recently as assistant coach at Northeast Texas Community College.
A former track and field athlete for the Cougars during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Davis returns to Barton via a two-year stint as assistant coach at Allen Community College.  The Miami, Florida, native will primarily lead the sprints, hurdles, and jump events.
