Garcia named Jayhawk Goalkeeper of the Week

For the second straight week the Barton women’s soccer team had a player recognized by the Jayhawk Conference as a player of the week.
This time Barton goalkeeper Maria-Elena Garcia earned the award, being named the KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week. During the two games this past week, Garcia allowed did not allow a goal as the Cougars rolled to a pair of wins, including the opener of Region VI play at Dodge City.
She didn’t allow a goal in her 58 minutes of play in a 7-1 win over Kansas City Kansas to end the regular season.
The sophomore from Wichita came up huge in Barton’s 3-0 win over Dodge City to start the post season, recording seven saves in the win.
Jennifer Mendez was tabbed the Player of the Week last week for Barton.
Barton had its season end in the region semifinals Thursday with a tough 2-0 loss to Butler.
