Nathalia Gouveia of the Barton Community College volleyball team was named Tuesday as the KJCCC Division I Defensive Player of the Week. Gouveia recorded double-digit digs in three of the five Cougar matches last week in earning the week two honor. Statistically averaging just 2.8 digs per set due to Barton’s style and defensive rotation, the sophomore from Rio de Janiero, Brazil, added to her numbers with nine blocks to go along with solid offensive numbers.
Beginning the week with a ten kill, seventeen dig performance, Gouveia recorded two more double-double performances over the weekend with a fourteen each kill and dig match against Highland before concluding her week with an eleven kill and thirteen dig match for her fifth double-double of the season.
Now 8-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Jayhawk, Gouveia and the Cougars return to conference action on Wednesday playing host to Butler Community College in a 6:30 p.m. first-serve at the Barton Gym.
