Hesston runs past Barton in late game attack

Hesston College scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings enroute to a 13-2 victory over Barton Community College in midweek play at Lawson-Biggs Field.  

The Larks outpaced Barton in the hitting department by an 8-6 margin while both teams yielded an error.

Following a two-run second inning for the Larks, the Cougars responded in the bottom half as Trevor Turner doubled to right field scoring Tyler Jennings. Hesston answered in the next frame with a run  scored by Shaquille Theus off a single by Rene Rivera and HC up 3-1.

The Cougars notched their final score of the afternoon in the bottom half of the fourth as Jennings doubled to center field scoring Grant Watkins.

Hesston went on the bag 10 runs over the next three innings and coasted to the 13-2 victory.

Tristan Hall (0-2) was tagged with loss while Hesston’s Josh Hibbard (2-0) notched the complete game win.

With the loss, Barton falls to a game below .500 on the season at 16-17 and 8-8 in conference play.

The Cougars hit the road this weekend for a three-game conference series with Garden City. Friday’s series opener begins at 3 pm.
