Letting a two-point halftime lead slip away, Barton Community College’s women’s basketball team was outscored 38-24 in the second half of a 73-61 loss to Independence Saturday night.
It was the second straight loss for BCC to a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Eastern Division foe, although it was a non-conference Barton Classic game.
The Cougars, who lost to Coffeyville 61-55 on Friday night, could blame this one on poor free throw shooting. They made only 12 of 26 free throws in suffering their second straight loss by six points.
Indy’s Taylor Floyd, a 6-foot sophomore, poured in a game-high 28 points to lead the Lady Pirates, who overcame a 37-35 halftime deficit and only 3-for-16 on 3-pointers. Jennifer Johnson had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Raven Adams scored 16 points, one of three Cougars in double figures. Christiana Caddy added 12 points, and Netanya Jackson had 10 points and six rebounds.
Barton’s leading scorer, Dionne Harris, was held scoreless, missing all eight of her shots from the floor. Harris and Shea Shoemaker led the Cougars with seven rebounds apiece.
BCC’s next action is this coming weekend in the two-day Barton Booster Club Classic.
