Lydia Konrade of the Barton Community College volleyball team was named Tuesday as the KJCCC Division I Defensive Player of the Week. Digging her way to the honor, her selection marks the third straight week a Cougar was awarded following Olivia Naccarato’s offensive honor last week and Nathalia Gouveia’s defensive awarding in week two.
Splitting time as a defensive specialist with Kassi Gratton for the Cougars, Konrade made the most of her court time with 33 digs in helping Barton to a 2-1 week including two conference sweeps. After playing just two sets against Colby to begin the week, the sophomore from Topeka moved back into the starting Libero position averaging five digs anchoring the defensive line to consecutive sweeps including a road victory at Pratt and more recently in this past Saturday’s win over No. 20 Hutchinson.
The week’s results moved Barton into sole possession of fourth, just one game behind the leaders at 4-2 and 15-4 on the season.
Next up for the Cougars will be a Wednesday trip to Concordia for a 6:30 p.m. first serve at Cloud County Community College before next Saturday’s 2 p.m. first serve against Seward County Community College.
