KINGMAN — Great Bend reliever Tyrus Riley (Barton County) threw two shutout innings as the Bat Cats escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Kingman Islanders Tuesday. The first-place Bat Cats (11-2) lead the Kansas Cannons (9-2) in the Sunflower Collegiate League.

Great Bend's Nick Parton scored the game-winning ninth-inning run.

Kingman's Brendan McBeth singled home Bradley Neill and Gavin Roy in the first inning after a single and double off starter Jonathan Treto.

Great Bend's Parton and Matthew Mendez drove home Jake Tatom and Jace Woita with productive second-inning outs. Robby Bolin reached base on an third-inning error and Armani Raygoza singled Bolin home. Marshall Hale scored on Jace Wentling's seventh-inning sacrifice fly for a 4-2 lead.

Kingman's Jayden Wiley capped a 3-hit night with a 2-run double that scored Neill and Roy for a 4-4 seventh-inning tie off reliever Wilson.
