The Barton softball team had its seven-game winning snapped Wednesday afternoon in Colby.

LIBERAL – Seward County outscored the Barton Cougars 24-4 after trailing 7-1 in Wednesday's opener to sweep the Jayhawk Conference softball twin bill 11-8 and 13-3. 

Seward County (20-14, 14-6 Jayhawk) delivered 12 extra-base hits to move ahead of Barton (18-16, 15-9 Jayhawk) into fourth place. Barton returns home against Garden City (5-31, 3-19 Jayhawk) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Seward outhit the Cougars 22-17 in the twin bill, with four homers. Barton's 12 hits were led by the trio of connections from Laci DrydenAllyson McDougal, and Elina Bartlett

SEWARD 11, COUGARS 8 (G1)  A six run lead in the opener wasn't enough to hold off the Saints as Seward County sent three out of the park in plating 10 runs in their final four frames to win 11-8. Seward's Anberlin O'Dell, Raeana Ortiz, and Alyna Frazier homered,​ Aaliyah Gutierrez tripled and Noemi Tudori and O'Dell doubled.

Dryden opened the day with a 3-of-4 performance with two RBI, driving in both runs in the third frame building Barton's lead to 7-1. McDougal was also the same from the plate in the opener but had her 12-game hit streak end in game two. 

Of the trio, Bartlett spread her hits across the double header with the first of her two hits in game one driving in the second of the Cougars' runs in the first inning.

Cougar pitcher Brooklynn Angielski left game one with the Cougars leading 7-5 in the fourth inning with Alicia Goseland getting out of the frame with the Cougars ahead 7-6.

The Saints scored on a 1-out hit for a 7-7 tie before Frazier's 3-run homer put Seward County ahead 10-7 to tag Goseland (1-4) with the loss.

SEWARD 13, COUGARS 3 (G2) – The Cougars were happy to jump on the bus after getting routed 13-3 in the nightcap. Seward's heavy hitting continued. Hailey Michalik homered, Gutierrez tripled and Ortiz and O'Dell doubled.​

Seward scored in all four at-bats for a 5-inning victory.

Joining Dryden with two RBI on the day, Mia Mascarenas got the game two start at first base going 1-for-2 driving in a run in the second frame on groundout before a fourth inning single put the second of just three Barton runs on the board.

The Cougars' Bartlett (6-3) lasted three innings in the circle.
