What a season it’s been for Michael Sinks.
The Barton sophomore second baseman capped off that memorable season by being named a first team NJCAA All American this week.
Sinks was picked first team at designated hitter, rounding out the 11-member first team. He was one of two Region VI players to earn first team honors along with Hutchinson’s Michael Helman in the infield.
Sinks had a monster season at the plate for the Cougars.
The Lawrence High graduate set three school records including racking up 100 hits to set a single season record. He hit .431 from the leadoff spot in the order with a .507 on base percentage.
He also displayed power with 12 home runs, 57 RBI and a .741 slugging percentage. His 26 doubles this season was also a Barton school record.
Sinks leaves Barton with career records in hits at 184 and doubles at 37. Sinks stole 14 bases and drew more walks (29) than he struck out (21). He led Barton in runs scored at 75 while playing in all 60 games as Barton finished the season with a 42-18 record.
He had a 16-game hitting streak and hit safely in 52 of the 60 games. His play seemed to get better as the competition improved, hitting .470 during the 32-game conference season with nine home runs, 36 RBI and 40 runs scored.
Sinks hit better than .400 in all four months during the season with his low .414 during March and a high of .462 in May.
