A small contingent of runners headed to the Cowley Tiger Invite this past weekend for the Barton women’s track team.
The Cougars competed in just six events – all on the track. Of those six events, Barton won a pair of gold medals competing against other two-year schools and some small college in the area.
Tamara Style and Asha Douglas both earned first place finishes for the Cougars.
Style led a trio of Cougars in the 400m that finished 1-2-3. Style took first in the event with a time of 57.96 – winning by more than three full seconds. Second place went to teammate Olivian Jackson in 1:01.05. Barton’s Danashka Lawrence was third in 1:01.5. Brianne Payne finished fifth in 1:02.5.
Douglas captured the 800m in 2:23:01 – nearly three seconds ahead of second place. Julee McAtee was sixth for the Cougars in 2:34.46.
Style just missed a couple wins by placing second in the 200m. She ran a 24.62 for her runner-up effort behind Paris Daniels’ 24.01. Daniels ran unattached. Brooklyn Polk was third in 25.2 while Lawrence finished fifth in 25.45.
Pressous Levels ran in the 100m for the Cougars, finishing fifth in 13.42.
Payne and Jackson both ran in the 100m hurdles for the Cougars, finishing third and fourth. Payne ran a 14.99 and Jackson a 15.47.
The only other event the Cougars ran in was the 1500m. Mariah Stein and Kaitlynn Tuey competed finishing with times of 5:29.37 and 5:38.16.
Barton will be back in action this weekend at the West Texas A&M Classic and Multis in Canyon, Texas.
