Chase football has three seniors
CHASE – Great Bend native and Barton Cougar graduate Cole Wintholz will start his second season with the Chase Kats football team. The 2010 Great Bend graduate and 2012 Barton Cougar graduate earned a degree in criminal justice.
Wintholz has coached recreational sports since he was 18 years old. He credits Great Bend coach Jason Duvall for lifechanging advice. Chase assistants are Mike Rice and Lucas McLaren.
Chase (1-9, 1-3 District) technically broke a 30-game losing streak with a 1-0 forfeit over Burrton. Chase last won a contested game Oct. 9, 2020 with a 62-38 win over Tescott.
Senior QB/RB/DG Leland Rice earned All-Central Prairie honors last year. Chase features a 9-player roster with a 95-pound back Laydn Hinterliter and four 200-plus pounders -- Justice Cavender (210), Robert DeVorss (238), Troy McLaren (210) and Santiago Torres/Esquivil (237).
“Our goal is to win some games,” Wintholz said. “I want the players to learn how to be men and how to work hard. A positive year for Chase will be to have these kids learn that hard work does pay off. I want them to develop the skills to be men in the future.”
