EMPORIA – Hoisington High’s Maleigha Schmidt earned the 16th medal with a 97 at Monday’s 321A girls state golf tournament. The high temperature at Emporia Golf Course was 45 degrees with the chill index hitting 33 degrees.
The Cardinals (444) placed fifth with Syracuse (362) defending its state championship ahead of runner-up Goodland (376) and third-place Caney Valley (383).
Schmidt placed as seventh medalist last year. She finished her career with third, fourth and fifth-place team finishes. Hoisington also competed with 23rd-place Trinity Dolezal (101); 43rd-place Liza Ward (117); 66th-place Heavin Hipp (129); 70th-place Addison Smith (133) and 81st-place Chandra Ehler (146).
Stanton County’s Rylie Cook (76) earned medalist honors, three strokes ahead of Goodland’s state runner-up Kerrigan Rudolph (79) and third-place medalist Faith Hedges (81) of Lawrence Seabury.
