Panthers compete at 5A state
EMPORIA — Great Bend Panthers Cailee McMullen placed 56th (110) and finished Ashlyn Harbaugh finished 69th (117) after the first day of the 5A girls state golf championship. Neither player made the 18-hole cut (104) for individual golfers.
St. Thomas Aquinas 690 (355-335) captured its third consecutive 5A state championship by 23 strokes over Lenexa St. James 713 (366-347). Scores were much lower Tuesday in milder 15-20 mph westerly winds. Aquinas was led by Maggie King (168) and Brooke King (168).
St. James' state champion Allison Comer 156 (79-77) led from wire-to-wire over Andover High's runner-up Madison Slayton 162 (84-78).
