HESSTON — Great Bend's Kaylee Reiser celebrated a 24th-place state finish with a birdie at her final No. 14 hole at Hesston Golf Course. Reiser also parred three holes in 55 degree weather.
Panther Caylee McMullen shot a 97, good for 34th-place, McMullen parred four holes.
Reiser rallied from an opening out-of-bounds shot.
"After a rough start, she recovered nicely to finish in 24th place," McAtee said. "She hit very good approach shots into greens. She made good up-and-downs later in the round to keep the momentum going."
McMullen started and ended with a par, but struggled to score in the middle of her round.
"Cailee McMullen had a couple rough patches in the middle of her round, but finished strong," McAtee said. "Cailee's short-game was solid. She hit very good pitch shots and chipped and putted respectably, which kept her score right at her season average."
Reiser and McMullen will headline a more experienced lineup next season with two state tournament veterans.
"Kaylee and Cailee will put in work this summer and build on tournament experience," McAtee said. "There's no doubt that they will improve. We graduate one senior, so the future looks bright for GBHS girls golf."
St. Thomas Aquinas (324) captured first place led by runner-up Maggie King (77), third-place Brooke King (78) and 10th-place Jaclyn Kozoil (84). Runner-up Andover High (331) featured state champion Tiffany Chan (76). Chan birdied No. 7 and 14 and played 1-under-par on her final five holes.
Hesston played with casual water throughout the course, which was set up favorably.
"The golf course was wet with significant casual water over the course from the recent rainfall," McAtee said. "The set-up played very fair, and scores reflected that."
