OTIS-BISON BOYS 57, STAFFORD 46

STAFFORD — Otis-Bison’s Maitland Wiltse scored 23 points as the Cougars avenged a Fairfield Classic loss to Stafford with a non-league basketball victory Tuesday. 

Otis-Bison (6-1) also placed Anton Foust (13) and Luke Higgason (12) in double figures. Stafford (4-3) was paced by Alek Manojlovic with 13 points and Matija Ivanovic with 10 points. The Trojans routed the Cougars 59-42 to capture first place at the Fairfield Falcon Classic two weeks ago. 

“I’m proud of our guys because we’re slowly getting better,” said Otis-Bison coach Curtis Little. “We’ll see how Thursday goes with St. John coming to town.”

STAFFORD — Otis-Bison’s Cora Anderson scored 22 points and Maddie Wiltse added 19 points as the Cougars roared past Stafford 62-26 in Tuesday’s non-league basketball game. Anderson and Wiltse combined for 22 first-quarter points. Anderson scored 20 first-half points.

Otis-Bison (6-0, 1-0 CPL) plays St. John (3-4, 0-1 CPL) Thursday at home.

ST. JOHN — Kinsley’s Josena Frame scored the final three points to preserve a 39-37 Central Prairie League basketball victory over St. John Tuesday.

Kinsley (6-1, 2-0 CPL) placed Rylee Gleason (10) and Madison McElwain (10) in double figures. St. John (3-4, 0-1 CPL) was sparked by Paige Doran with 18 points and Bree Meyer with nine points. The Tigers play at Otis-Bison (6-0, 1-0 CPL) Thursday.

ST. JOHN — Tiger Tanner Halling continues to dominate with 18 points as St. John roared past Kinsley 59-23 in Tuesday’s Central Prairie League basketball game.

Mason Osborne added 16 points for St. John (5-2, 1-0 CPL), which plays at Otis-Bison Thursday.  


HOISINGTON BOYS 56, SMOKY VALLEY 37

HOSINGTON — Cardinal Drew Nicholson scored 21 points and sidekick Mason Haxton added 16 points as Hoisington stunned Smoky Valley in Tuesday’s non-league basketball game. 

Braxton Donovan dished out five assists with three steals. The Cardinals outscored the Vikings 21-9 from 3-point range as the Vikings made 3 of 21 attempts.

The Cardinals (2-3) used a 10-0 scoring streak for a 21-7 third-quarter advantage. Lane Schrag and Cole Brumbaugh each scored seven points. The Vikings (3-3) upset 3A state champion Halstead 46-43 last week behind Lane Schrag’s 12 points.

HOSINGTON — Hoisington’s Suzanna Schneider scored the go-ahead basket in the second overtime as the Cardinals survived 29-28 over Smoky Valley in a non-league basketball game. Maleigha Schmidt scored 10 points for the Cardinals (2-3).

Smoky Valley’s Ashlyn Bryant converted two free throws to send the game to overtime at 23-23. Schmidt sank two free throws and Vikings Kira Haxton and Kaylie Ryan converted free throws for a 25-25 tie after the first overtime. 


CENTRAL PLAINS BOYS 43, ELLINWOOD 21

ELLINWOOD — Oiler Brett Liebl dominated inside with 18 points as No. 1 ranked Central Plains coasted past pesky Ellinwood 43-21 in Tuesday’s Central League basketball game.

Central Plains (7-0, 1-0 CPL) has swept 33 consecutive basketball games. The Oilers play Macksville Jan. 4.

Four players scored four points for Ellinwood. Ellinwood (2-5, 1-1 CPL) worked patiently for quality shots to slow the pace. The Eagles were outscored 11-0 in the third period. The Eagles play Jan. 4 at Fairfield.

ELLINWOOD – All-stater Emily Ryan scored 26 points with eight steals as Central Plains roared past Ellinwood 86-15 in Tuesday’s Central Prairie League basketball game. The No. 1 ranked Oilers (7-0, 1-0 CPL) have won 91 consecutive basketball games. 

Delaney Rugan scored 14 points and Zoe Potter added 10 points. The Oilers led 56-8 at halftime. The Oilers shot 71 percent on 39 of 55 field goals.

Ellinwood (4-3, 1-1 CPL) was led by Mya Maxwell with six points.
