Great Bend righthander Ian Lanik earned his fourth consecutive victory in the Bat Cats' 6-3 Sunflower Collegiate League baseball victory over Haysville at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Barton Community College pitcher Lanik struck out six batters with no walks.
Second baseman Hunter Gotreaux teamed with shortstop Raithen Malone for a 4-6-3 double play on Austin Warnkin's fifth-inning groundball.
The Bat Cats (17-3, 13-2 Sunflower) maintain first place heading to Thursday's rematch at Haysville.
Great Bend converted back-to-back Haysville errors into a 3-run second inning. Grant Fahrlander's double scored Colter Maldanado and Hunter Gotreaux, who reached base on errors. Maldanado singled home Simon Larranaga in the third inning. Raithen Malone doubled and scored on a productive Kyle Gates' fourth-inning groundout for a 5-0 lead.
Haysville's Clay Artho scored a fifth-inning run when a fly ball by Kaden McBratney was misplayed.
Maldanado walked, stole second base and scored on a fifth-inning pickoff throw by Haysville catcher Max Valdez.
Haysville's Paul Wittman tripled home Artho and McBratney after a single and double in the seventh inning. Reliever Brett Allen struck out three batters in two innings.
