CHENEY – The Great Bend Bat Cats swept the Sunflower Seeds 17-2 and 5-0 in Wednesday’s Sunflower Collegiate League baseball doubleheader.
In the opener, Zane Spinn drove home three runs and scored two runs. Dylan Blomquist scored two runs and drove in two runs. Nico Baumbach and Micah Grover each drove home two runs. Alex Rodgers scored three runs and drove in a run.
The Bat Cats (2-0) play Friday against the Sunflower Seeds in a 5 p.m. home doubleheader at Al Burns Memorial Field. Admission is free to Bat Cats games.
BAT CATS 5, SEEDS 0 (G2) – The Bat Cats' Zach Thornton and the Seeds’ Adam Birch staged a scoreless duel through four innings. Brett Freiberg singled home Kyle Gates to ignite a five-run fifth inning. Dylan Blomquist doubled home Micah Grover and Freiberg. Jett Forrest singled home Alex Rodgers and Blomquist for a 5-0 lead.
Bat Cats relievers Matt Nedved, Ethan Thomas, Chris Lenocker and Evans Hendricks combined for four shutout innings.
