Bat Cats win Sunflower League opener

Barton Cougar assistant baseball coach Alex King enjoyed a happy homecoming at Al Burns Memorial Field Wednesday. King directed the Fort Collins Foxes to an 8-7 non-league baseball victory over the Bat Cats.

Bat Cat Trent Touchet drove home three runs with a home run and double to spark Great Bend past Mulvane 10-5 in Monday's Sunflower Collegiate League baseball opener.

Chandler Bloomer, Brady Michel and Collin Meinert also drove home runs for Great Bend (2-2, 1-0 Sunflower). Bat Cats Brady Michel and Collin Meinert also doubled. Chandler Bloomer and Touchet each scored three runs. Alex Rodgers scored two runs. The Bat Cats struck out five times after 32 strikeouts in the past two games against Liberal.

Great Bend scored three runs in the first and eighth innings. Barton Community College graduate Jarrett Seaton earned the pitching victory. 

The Bat Cats travel to Mulvane Tuesday and Friday and return home Wednesday at Al Burns Memorial Field.
